Is Your Breakfast Derailing Your Weight Loss Efforts?

If you’re looking to lose weight, what you eat for breakfast really does matter.

It’s going to tell your body to either turn on or turn off your hunger hormones. This is so key if you deal with cravings or urges to snack all the time. 

On top of that, what you put on your plate first thing in the morning is also going to affect your energy levels for the day and your ability to burn fat.

 

1. To get trim, avoid this

In the morning, you want to avoid breakfasts that are heavy on the starchy carbs, that are loaded with fruit, or that contain anything sugary. 

This means that if your morning go-to’s are muffins, granola bars, toast, cereal or smoothies that have tons of fruit – it’s time to ditch them.

The heavy sugar load that these items contain is going to spike your insulin and will make you weight loss resistant. 

In addition to that, those breakfasts are turning your hunger signals on and will most likely have you craving more sugar around 10-11AM and again around 2-4PM. Not exactly what you want when you’re looking to lose weight!

If you’re surprised that I’m advising you to skip loads of fruit – know that fructose, which is fruit sugar, turns to fat faster than any other form of carbs. 

Don’t get me wrong, fruit contains fiber, antioxidants and loads of nutrients. They just have to be eaten in moderates amount if you are looking to shed some pounds. 

 

2. Get to your ideal weight by including this powerful trio in your breakfast   

What you want to include in your breakfast, instead of starchy carbs and sugar, is a combination of protein, healthy fats and fiber.

This powerful trio will keep your blood sugar stable. This will provide you with steady energy, it will keep you full longer and it will turn off your hunger hormones. This will also allow you to be in fat burning mode.

Now on to the best part of this post – the delicious breakfast smoothie!

This smoothie is made with blueberries which is a low-sugar fruit packed with antioxidants. I’ve also included almond butter because it’s a healthy fat that will help to balance your blood sugar and to keep you feeling full. I’ve added chia seeds for added omega-3 fats and fiber. You will love this smoothie!

 

Vanilla Blueberry Smoothie

Ingredients

1.5 cups of nut milk
1/4 cup blueberries
2 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp almond butter
1 serving of vanilla protein (my fave is SunWarrior Classic)

Directions

1. Place ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Add ice if preferred.
